Originally published in 2017, this post reflects on a series of exceptional projects that received RIBA recognition. While these projects were completed during Tim’s time at previous award-winning practices, he played a central role in their design and delivery. As we continue our work at Threshold Architects, we look back at these formative projects as the foundation of our technical expertise and our commitment to the high standards required to achieve regional and national architectural acclaim.

The RIBA Awards issue of RIBA Journal is always a pleasure, and this year it is great to see so many projects that I have been involved in over the years, or by friends and colleagues, featured.
Derwenthorpe in York by Studio Partington, and in particular the project architect Adam Cornish, has won more prizes to go with those already in the locker. A fantastic project showcasing what volume housebuilding could be with a thoughtful and engaged client in the Joseph Rowntree Foundation.

Walmer Yard by Peter Salter with Mole Architects, and project architect Hugo Keane, is at the other end of the scale. Speculative housing on design steroids!

HouseBoat, also by Mole Architects, for Roger Zogolivich and solid space is a bespoke test bed for the solid space concept, crafted and finished beautifully.

Also congratulations to Hyde+Hyde, vPPR, Henry Goss, 6a, David Sheppard, Gianni Botsford, Martin Eriksson, and all the other winners!
The experience of working on RIBA award-winning projects at respected firms has deeply influenced the way we operate at Threshold Architects today. It instilled in us a rigorous approach to detailing, a deep respect for site-specific context, and a high level of professional discipline. We bring this ‘award-winning’ pedigree to every residential project we undertake, ensuring our clients benefit from the same level of expertise that goes into the region’s most celebrated buildings. If you would like to discuss a project that demands this level of craft and attention to detail, please Contact the Studio.
